Caltech Resnick Institute Announces Winners of DOW SISCA Competition
By Innovate Pasadena Staff — November 18, 2013
The Resnick Institute announced today that Nicole Peck and Zhan Wang have been awarded first place in the Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge Award (SISCA) competition at Caltech. The first-place team conceived “biocatalysis,” a technique that replaces traditional metal catalysis with biological agents of superior energy efficiency without leaving any harmful residue. Peck and Wang are already applying their technology at a small company they started with fellow graduates.
Launched in 2009, SISCA competition encourages interdisciplinary teams to discover environmentally positive technological and scientific innovations. In its fifth year, the program now includes 17 academic institutions internationally. The Resnick Institute co-sponsors and runs the Caltech competition.
