Pasadena Ranks in the Top 10 of U.S. Digital Cities Its Size

The City of Pasadena again secured a spot in the top 10 digital cities of its size in this year’s nationwide Digital Cities Survey. The survey is conducted each summer by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government. The Arroyo Advisory Group (AAG), formed by the City of Pasadena, was established to identify and prioritize projects that will maintain and enhance the Arroyo Seco for current and future generations. Pasadena Half Marathon & 5K Corporate Challenge

Conqur Endurance Group, in partnership with the Rose Bowl Operating Company, Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and PIHRA introduce the Pasadena Half Marathon & 5K Corporate Challenge. The Corporate Challenge provides businesses the opportunity to promote workplace wellness, build camaraderie and create friendly competition amongst other businesses. Regardless of size of the organization, companies are encouraged to sign up corporate teams to participate in either the Half Marathon or 5K where the participating teams will compete for bragging rights and a host of cool prizes. All Autonomous Roads Lead to Pasadena

Caltech Celebrates Its Newest Nobel Laureates

The Caltech community gathered on October 31 to celebrate the Institute’s most recent Nobel Laureates – Barry Barish, the Ronald and Maxine Linde Professor of Physics, Emeritus and Kip S. Thorne (BS ’62), the Richard P. Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics, Emeritus – who on October 3 were awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics with a longtime colleague, MIT’s Rainer Weiss. Caltech Launches New Autonomous Systems Research Center

The Center for Autonomous Systems and Technologies (CAST) will unite engineers and scientists from many disciplines to advance research on robotics, drones, driverless cars, and machine learning. At CAST, researchers from Caltech's Division of Engineering and Applied Science, Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences, and JPL will collaborate to create the next generation of autonomous systems, advancing the fields of drone research, autonomous exploration, and bio-inspired systems. Star Exploded, Survived, and Exploded Again More Than 50 Years Later

An international team of astronomers including Carnegie’s Nick Konidaris and Benjamin Shappee discovered a star that exploded multiple times over a period of 50 years. The finding, published by Nature, completely confounds existing knowledge of a star’s end of life, and Konidaris’ instrument-construction played a crucial role in analyzing the phenomenon. READ MORE
