Event Details
The SGV Software Engineering group, is a group of devs, admins, hardware hackers, seeking seeking to write more maintainable and robust code. And hopefully we can avoid the dreaded, "who wrote this!", only to have Git blame to say it was us.
Smalltalk-80 pioneered many innovative software IDE and language features we take for granted today, but what became of Smalltalk itself? As it nears its 40th birthday, has Smalltalk become a relic of the past? No longer used (or even usable) today? Given only historical mention in passing in CS courses? In this talk, you will learn about Smalltalk's colorful history, find out how it evolved into a modern competitive platform, and see demonstrations of some of its very cool and still innovative features that are motivating a budding renaissance.
