Transit News: Skip the Car and Step Aboard!

By Michelle Garrett — February 11, 2016

Pasadena is home to world class institutions which open their doors to collaboration and community. ArtCenter College of Design recently lent its influence and talent in helping Pasadena reboot its local area transit system. The new brand, Pasadena Transit, features a new name and logo along with the same great service and six convenient routes that service over 1.5 million passengers on an annual basis.

ArtCenter graduate Julie Yeow developed the clean, bold logo and branding materials for the City’s Department of Transportation. Yeow’s theme retains a “friendly energy” to communicate Pasadena Transit’s goal of connecting people and places in Pasadena. To convey the theme of making connections, Yeow integrated iconic images of Pasadena including the Colorado Street Bridge, the national historical landmark Pasadena City Hall, the Civic Auditorium and ArtCenter.

The branding campaign was a collaborative, multi-year effort by the City with ArtCenter. Year after year in similar collaborations, major companies from around the world work with ArtCenter students and faculty on their marketing, branding and logo campaigns.

Other exciting news for transit is the soon to be opened Gold Line Extension which will connect Pasadena to its neighbors to the east. The 11.5 mile Gold Line Extension will open March 5 and will feature free rides and public celebrations at the new stops from 11 am to 4 pm that day. The extension will connect five cities and dozens of destinations between East Pasadena and Azusa.

No more 210 to the 110 to the 10 skits on SNL. Angelenos, and visitors to the area, will be “Rediscovering Gold” as their transit options expand. All aboard!
