NASA Space Apps Challenge Returns to Pasadena!

By Joe Brisbois — March 15, 2016

This April, Pasadena will be the center of the hacking universe when it hosts the mainstage of the world’s largest international hackathon, the NASA Space Apps Challenge.

Each year, the NASA Space Apps Challenge brings together talented creators in cities around the world to solve challenges and create innovative solutions that could help change the world. This year, Pasadena is thrilled to have been selected by NASA as the Global Main Stage location for the event on April 23 & 24.

Anyone interested in creative problem solving can get involved in Space Apps! Teams will consist of more than just engineers and scientists (although they are obviously welcome)! Storytellers, artists, designers, musicians, entrepreneurs, students, and more are all welcome to get involved to showcase their ingenuity and talents in the pursuit of creating compelling solutions. Click here to sign up now!

Space Apps participants will choose challenges from six categories: Aeronautics, International Space Station, Solar System & Beyond, Technology, Earth and the Journey to Mars.

The 2016 NASA Space Apps Pasadena event will take place Saturday, April 23rd and Sunday, April 24th at Cross Campus, Pasadena. Sign-in will begin at 9am on Saturday morning and the event will conclude with teams presenting their solutions on Sunday afternoon.

In advance of the main event, there are two pre-event meet ups for everyone interested in the NASA Space Apps Pasadena event. These meet ups will cover everything from how to form/join a team, choose a challenge, and work with NASA data.

The first meet up will take place Thursday, March 24th at the soon-to-be-opened Supplyframe Design Lab in Pasadena. Attendees will get a sneak peak at this amazing new space.

The second meet up will take place Tuesday, April 12th at the historic main offices of the Carnegie Observatories. Both meet ups will provide participants with key insight and info in preparation for the main weekend event as well as special presentations from JPL, Microsoft, Intel, and Carnegie Observatories.
